PleinBe privacy policy

Last updated: 2 November 2026

PleinBe is a free app that shows the fuel stations around you with the best known price. It asks for no account, no name and no email address, and contains no ads and no advertising tracking. This page explains which data is processed, why, how long it is kept and how to exercise your rights.

1. Data controller

Publisher: JKOM, Liège, Belgium.
Privacy contact: jkom4dev@gmail.com.

No data protection officer has been appointed, as the processing does not require one. For any question, write to the address above.

2. Data processed

Device identifier

On first launch, the app creates a random identifier, stored on your phone. It is not linked to any account or to your identity. It is sent with requests to the PleinBe server to limit abuse. The server stores it hashed (SHA-256 with a secret salt) with feedback, and as is with the prices you report, to limit the number of reports per device. The “Delete my data” button and uninstalling the app delete this identifier from the phone.

Anonymous usage measurement (with your consent)

On first launch, the app asks whether you agree to share anonymous usage statistics. It stays off until you accept. If you refuse, no event is sent and no measurement identifier is created. You can change your mind at any time with the switch in the profile.

If you accept, the app sends short events to PostHog, hosted in the European Union: app opened, map shown, station opened, search, price sent, favourite added, alert created or shown, language or theme changed, feedback sent, data deleted. Each event contains its name, a random identifier created by PostHog, technical information (app version, device model and system) and, for some events, the identifier of the station concerned. It contains no location, no search text and no email address. No person profile is created, and session recording and automatic capture are turned off.

Reported prices

If you report a price, the server stores the station, the fuel, the price, the observation date and the device identifier.

Feedback sent voluntarily

If you use “Give feedback”, the server stores the category, your message, the app version, the hashed device identifier and, only if you fill it in, the contact you give (for example an email address). This contact is only used to reply to you. A copy of the category, the message, the version and the contact, if any, is sent to the publisher through the Telegram messaging service, without any device identifier.

Crash data

If the app crashes, a report is sent to Firebase Crashlytics (Google): technical trace of the error, device model, system version, app version and an installation identifier created by Crashlytics. These reports do not contain your location.

GPS location

With your permission, the app uses the phone's location to centre the map and look for nearby stations. For this search, the location is sent to the PleinBe server, which only uses it to compute the answer. It is never stored or logged on the server. You can refuse or withdraw the permission in the phone settings.

Technical connection data

Like any web server, the server receives the device's IP address. It is used to deliver the answer and to limit the number of requests per address. It is not stored in the database and not logged.

Data stored only on the phone

Your favourites, your price alerts, the preferred fuel, the language, the theme and your choice about usage measurement stay on your phone. They are not stored on the server. To check your alerts, the app sends the server the station, the fuel and the threshold of each alert, without any device identifier; the server answers and keeps nothing.

4. Recipients and processors

  • OVH: hosting of the server and the database, in London (United Kingdom).
  • PostHog: usage measurement, only with your consent, hosted in the European Union.
  • Google: Google Maps (map display in the app, which communicates directly with Google), Google Places (the PleinBe server asks Google about stations, without sending your location or your identifier), Firebase Crashlytics (crash reports).
  • Telegram: delivery of feedback to the publisher, without any device identifier.

Some data processed by Google may be transferred outside the European Union. These transfers are covered by the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and by the standard contractual clauses of the European Commission. The data is not sold and not used for advertising.

5. Your rights

You have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction and objection, and the right to withdraw your consent at any time.

  • Erasure: the “Delete my data” button in the profile erases your favourites and alerts, replaces the device identifier, deletes on the server the feedback linked to the device and removes the identifier from the reported prices. The prices remain, with no link to you. It also replaces the usage measurement identifier: statistics already sent are no longer linked to the app.
  • Withdrawing consent and objecting to usage measurement: the “Anonymous usage statistics” switch in the profile stops all sending immediately.
  • Access, rectification and other requests: write to jkom4dev@gmail.com. We answer within one month at most.

As PleinBe does not know your identity, we can only find your data on a written request if you give us something that links it to you, for example the contact given in a feedback.

You can also lodge a complaint with the Belgian Data Protection Authority, rue de la Presse 35, 1000 Brussels, www.dataprotectionauthority.be.
